1st Lt. Zimmerman Fitness Challenge Training Program

For anyone who plans to sign up for the Zimmerman Fitness Challenge here is the training program that we will be using to prepare a few of our teams.

As you can see there is a lot more running than we typically do! This program is intended to help you build up to a moderate distance by progressively increasing the time/distance. In addition to the running, here are a few accessory movements you should be training to ensure you are in top shape for the Challenge!

Pushups*
Situps
Pullups*
Burpees
Bear Crawls*
Farmer Carry
Buddy Carry
Wheelbarrows
Inchworms*
Army Crawls
*Work up to weighted movements

Weighted runs
Stadium Stairs

These movements should be supplemented before or after your runs. Many of them can be implemented as warmups or cool downs. The rep scheme doesn’t matter as much as simply being sure to hit all the movements once or twice a week. If bear crawls are the bane of your existence then do them more often!

“1st Lt James Zimmerman, 25, was killed in action Nov. 2, 2010, by small arms fire while leading his Marines in Afghanistan. He was a native of Houlton, ME and after serving in the enlisted ranks, he graduated from the University of Maine’s Navy ROTC unit. He was commissioned as an infantry officer into the United States Marine Corps in 2008.

The 1st Lt Zimmerman scholarship was set up in his honor, to aid future graduates from the NROTC program. 1st Lt Zimmerman exemplified the finest qualities within our unit and the Marine Corps. Come join us to remember one of our fallen heroes and to pay tribute to his memory.”
